AWRA Calendar Update

Racing Action at Pit Pass Raceway

They had a good crowd and a lot of laughs today racing flexis at Pit Pass. 

The first race was for Intimidator Dirt Late models. Les Wright (Wrightway Products) took the win with a fast hotrod. 

Nick Farris took the runner-up spot and Jason Kesterson rounded out the podium. 

The next race was for Phoenix GTP. Les Wright once again took the win sweeping the day; congrats buddy. 

Nick Farris took the runner-up spot and James Gibson rounded out the podium. 

Would like to thank Tony for racing with us today for the first time. 

Congrats to all of our winners and thank you to everyone that showed up for the event.

2021 ISRA Worlds Postponed

To our fellow racers worldwide:

As we have watched the world deal with the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the time has run out on our ability to wait any further on making a decision towards the 2021 ISRA World championships in the United States. Travel has not resumed from Europe and abroad to the US, and there does not seem to be any such action taking place anytime soon.

It would not be right in our eyes to see any of ISRA’s supporting countries be excluded from participating through no fault of their own. With that being said, by the unanimous agreement of the ISRA BoD and our committee, it has been decided in the best interest of everyone to postpone the 2021 ISRA Worlds.

As agreed, Latvia will now continue preparations for the 2022 Worlds after their also unfortunate postponement from 2020. The Worlds will return to the USA in 2023.

We are closing registration and will be refunding those who had sent currency already. The Resorts Casino Hotel venue has been notified of our postponement. They, as well as us, remained very hopeful for changes that would bring the ISRA Worlds to their facility. We thank them for their continued loyalty and understanding amid all this madness. It is our intention to try and retain that venue for 2023 as well so we will keep ISRA posted on our negotiations going further.

We hope this message finds you all healthy and well, as we now look to focus support for Janis Nabokins' organization for Latvia in 2022.

We would like to thank Resorts Casino, the ISRA BoD, our many manufacturers, race directors, and everyone who has been involved for their support and hard work with the USA race preparation during very difficult circumstances.

Thank you to all those racers who registered in the hope of a better outcome. We remain very positive and promise to use this postponement time to plan an even better 2023 Worlds for everyone when ISRA returns to the USA in 2023.

The 2nd 24 Hours of Ohio Race - 2021

The 2nd 24 Hours of Ohio Race Presented by the FNRS was held June 25-27, 2021 at Mark's Model World in Canton, Ohio. The Race was held on their 155’ Gerding King Track.

Six teams and 39 drivers participated in the long and grueling event. One team that had entered was a no-show.

Friday started off with all-day practice on the King track and most racers were quite busy dialing in their racing machines.

The engraved Hand Out Pro-Slot Double Ball Bearing Scorpion motors and Mid America Wonder Rubber Tires were handed out at 5 pm and all cars and extra tires and motors were etched and impounded at 8:30 p.m.

The race started at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning with the first hour-long segment of 24 total one-hour-long segments. 

It was now up to the drivers, pitmen, strategy, and luck over the next 24 hours.

Team Cars at the Start

It's difficult to give a blow-by-blow heat by heat Race report due everything going on over the 24 hours, but here is a summary of the event.

Team Nomad was in first place after the 1st hour with Team Great 8 taking the lead after 2 hours and holding the lead into the 4th hour when Team Those Guys where leading at the end of 4 hours. Lots of changes were taking place in hours 3 and 4 as tire changes, Braid changes, oiling, etc was taking place for all of the Teams.

After 5 hours it was Great 8 back in front with a slim lead over Those Guys and Team MMW. Teams Mid America, Nomads and Michigan Mafia were having their share of problems and bad luck in the first 5 hours, but they didn't give up and kept repairing and fighting.

Over the remainder of the race, Great 8 continued to lead while Those Guys stayed close the next 19 hours while scrapping with MMW for 2nd a couple of hours while Mid America and Michigan Mafia climbed out of last place in the early going.

In the end, it was Great 8 Winning with 19,833 laps, 2nd Those Guys 19,154 laps, 3rd MMW 18928 laps followed by Mid America 18,576 laps, Michigan Mafia 18,389 laps and Nomads 18,189 laps.

The Winning car traveled a tad over 582 miles at an average speed of a tad over 24 MPH.

Announcing the 2021 Flexi Palooza 2-21 Race to be held Dec 3-4, 2021 at Mach 1 Raceway in Spout Spring, Virginia.

All races will be on the Gerding G4 King 155'.

Carrera Of America, Revell Merge To Form Carrera Revell Of Americas

A pair of industry giants in the realm of slot car racing, R/C cars, and true-to-life model kits have formally joined forces.

Following 19 months of negotiations involving the companies’ home offices in Germany and Austria, Carrera of America and Revell have merged their operations to become Carrera Revell of Americas Inc. Carrera’s Frank Tiessen and Revell’s Lou Aguilera will serve as co-presidents leading an expanded operation that will now include Latin America in addition to the U.S. and Canada.

“We quickly recognized that there are synergies between the Revell and Carrera brands,” Tiessen says. “Both companies have long histories with strong, enthusiastic fan bases — so while we didn’t want to alter the end product, we are excited to offer a better, more streamlined operation for our business partners and expand our operations into Latin America. With slot cars and realistic models, we have something for every age group — children to adults — and this partnership will allow us to now bring those to more people around the world.”

As of this month, Carrera Revell of Americas is operating out of a combined warehouse in Atlanta. The streamlined business and combined team allow retailers to more easily reach minimum shipment levels by ordering slot cars and model kits in a single order.
