In 2021, a "reunion" race was held to remember the racers we have lost over the years and enjoy the company of racers who are still with us. It was not intended to be a "race" in the conventional sense but a vehicle to make memories and have fun.
The first event was hosted by Atlanta Slot Car Raceway in the Atlanta GA northern suburbs.
It was a success and well attended by racers in the South East, so a second event was planned and held on the first Saturday of December 2022.
Due to scheduling conflicts and other factors, the second event was held at On The Edge Raceway in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. The races were run on the "Daytona" tri-oval track.
One class was run for the event with technical specifications being FCR/GRC 4 1/2 in. chassis, Sealed Parma 501 motors, and "Hardbody" styrene NASCAR stock car bodies. Tech was somewhat relaxed with cars that were "close" being passed.
Mid-America Products provided a stock of Parma 501 "Deathstar" motors in advance to the raceway. These motors have just become available again after many years of them being out of stock and difficult to find in new condition.
There were 45 entries, and the event was run through 5 mains 2 mins by 8 lanes each.
Sponsorship for the event was provided by Kelly Racing Products, Mid-America Products, Salvino's JR model kit company, and Project X Racing products.
Pizza was provided for lunch by On The Edge Raceway. Thank you to Trent and Brandi Layne for their hospitality during the event.
