There will be no pinion changes allowed for the final race. On the RX-42B (9 tooth) for the Nascar class and the Pro Speed (10 tooth) for the Audi/Porsche Pro class will be used. These pinions come on the motors and those will be supplied in place on the hand out motor. This is being done to keep racing equal, and to speed along tech inspection to make sure racing is being done as quickly as possible.
Also the tires that will be used will be the Maxxtrac M9 tire for the Nascar, and for the Audi it will be the Indygrip IG4101. If the Porsche is used for the Pro class the tire will be the IG3201. Tires will be supplied by Professor Motor and prizes will be supplied for the good Professor as well!
Also I'm pleased to announce that Jim DiFalco has given us a new DD301 controller for a prize. The top 5 finishers will have their names put into a hat, a name will be drawn, and that person will be awarded with the controller.
And, of course, SCX will have cars and parts as prizes as well for the top 3 finishers as well as some prizes to be given out during the course of the day's racing.

SCX Nat's qualifier race
On Saturday, September 20th, 2008 the Wyoming Valley Slot Car Association and Warrior Run Loco Works, was the site for another SCX National Qualifier Race. This was a beautiful September day in Northeast Pa. and the racers were super excited to start the event, after a morning practice session and some coffee with a mixed variety of bagels everyone was ready to start. Dave Kennedy from SCX performed the preliminary tech on the Audi LMP no magnet class with a tyre hand out (1603 Super Tires) and the magnetic SCX Nascar class with all cars using stock tyres and 225 grams of down force. All 9 competitors teched just fine and all cars were impounded till the start of the race. Our racing roster was as follows ; Tom Gunshannan JR, Tom Gunshannan 3rd, Sam Barbose, JJ Kozokas, Dean Kirkpatrick, Mike Grabko, Tom Pintchuck, Clarence Taylor, and Chuck Perez. Dave Kennedy was our racing official.
It was now race time and the racing line up was set , with the button pushed we were off to another regional event with 4 racers going to nationals, Tom2 was off to a blistering pace in red lane followed by Dean , Mike , and Clarence making up the pack in the first heat of the race. As other racers rotated in, this was anybody's race with changes in position almost untrackable. Tom P came into the Pack with a 36 lap run in the red lane but JJ and Sam would not be out done running 37 Laps in the same lane. Chuck was now entering the red lane and finished up with a 39,could this be a sign of what was to come? As every one kept to their pace and time ticking by with the half way point Chuck had a small lead on the feild and no one was going to give this race away. The start of the second half of LMP was clean and fast, Clarence Taylor was now getting the hang of the track and was on the way to prove he was not going down to any one, but Mike was starting to have some gear trouble and starting falling back but not giving up, Tom P, was battling against Tom 3rd and JJ, Sam, and Chuck were runiing for the lead, Tom 2, and Dean were intheir own battle at one point but Tom2 showed eveyone he was here to race today. The LMP race was finnally over and the standings were announced and the racers prepared for the SCX nascar class. This was going to be interesting because most of the club races no magnet. The race was super competitive and pretty rough with plenty of de-slots on the hill section of our track. THis race was mixing up the feild quite abit with racers switching positions till the end. Now it was time to add all the laps up from the LMP race and the Nascar race and here is the final results.............
1 Chuck Perez 461 laps (lmp record 5.984) (nascar record 5.738)
2 JJ Kozokas 439 laps
3 Tom Gunshannan JR 430 laps
4 Dean Kirkpatrick 421 laps
5 Tom Pintchuck 420 laps 11 sections
6 Tom Gunshannan 3rd 420 laps 3 sections
7Clarence Taylor 404 laps
8 Mike Grabko 386 laps
9 Sam Barbose JR 362 laps
The WVSCA and Warrior Run Loco Works would like to thank Dave Kennedy and SCX for allowing us to have this event, and Clarence Taylor for making the drive in from NJ to spend the day racing with us. We now have 4 racers ready to go to nationals, to race with more guys who share our hobby. Can't wait to go!!!!!!!!

SCX National Championshop - HOUSTON (complete)

It was a long, hard race, that all the racers fully enjoyed.
We started the event with the SCX NASCAR class to get the racing off the ground... not to mention we all needed to wake up a little bit!

Improptu SCX Car Reviewa and Tech Notes:
Notes:
- All of the NASCAR cars ran on the new hand out rear tires. Many of the drivers opted to swap out their front tires as well, since most of us had turned the fronts down a little, or rounded the corners off.
- The SCX NASCAR tires according to the lastest SCX price list were only available as a complete kit of 4 tires with a full rear axle setup. Luckily for one of the racers (me) I got to use the whole kit and swap my rear axle out, after one of the wheels on my Kevin Harvick car came off the axle.
- We teched all the NASCARs, with a body-off presentation to the impound. Once the cars were cleared, the bodies were put back on the cars, and the marshalls cranked the body and magnet mount screws all the way down, so everyone was literally on a box stock, level playing field with no "magnet draggers".
- We also dropped all them on the Magnet Marshall to check them out (just for grins).
- The NASCARs were all run box stock, with hand-out rears only. No SCX PRO parts allowed (to keep the cost down for the racers).
- The SCX PRO Audi's were allowed to run SCX PRO parts, but oddly enough everyone ran theirs with stock gearing.
- We knew that the racing would be REAL close (and it was!) so we did 5 minutes per lane across 4 lanes, European rotation, and was measured in total laps, with the ties broken by total distance of last lap, then by fastest lap time.

For the impromptu review of the SCX NASCAR, this one is short but simple. They ROCK!
For those of you with an SCX Regional Qualifier coming up, I dont know how your race host will check your cars, but we had 5 people that were all running brand new cars (ie: they just came in on Friday kind of new...). The new Earnhardt #3 Wrangler, Kahne #9 Mopar and the Montoya #42 Texaco Havoline. Let me just say that all 5 of these cars placed...you guessed it at the top!! They pulled down 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th.
Given that the motors were identical and brand spankin new, as were the tires, the only thing that we can attribute it to, is that the rear magnets in the new cars are MUCH stronger than all the others.
The magnets in the new cars were pulling 450-480 on the Magnet Marshall and the other SCX NASCARs were pulling 320-330. The light-weight of the group were 2 older SCX Reeses cars, pulling a 215 and 230.
Hmmmm, dont know how that one is going to pan out across all the races, as SCX doesnt make replacement magnets for the cars. Hope you saved yours if you are a no-mag club like we are.

For the SCX Pro Audi
Make SURE that you check the grub screw on your crown gear! You always hear about the one that "could have been" or "that got away"...well, in the case of Greg Andrews and Rick Carlson, the rear crown came loose on the axle and allowed the axle to slide out to the side, to the point that the tire bound up on the fender of the car. Since repairs are made with the track hot (just like in a real race), getting the car off the track, getting the screw drivers, popping the body off, re-aligning the axle and tighening with re-assembly took 9-10 laps of both drivers. Remember the 10sec lap times were on a 122 foot track. So we lost a LOT of ground!
On our Audi's all of them but 1 were SCX PRO Audi's, the last was an SCX R10 with an SCX Pro motor and tires.
All of the cars handled like a dream and gave the drivers to see what they were really capable of. The one repetitive comment that I heard was that the cars were on par with what Slot. Its were capable of doing on the track, and I think it opened up some guys eyes that had been die-hard Slot.It fans.
These things drive incredibly smoothly and are predictable once you get a few laps under you. The power is consistently smooth.
The one complaint about the cars (both the PRO Audi and NASCAR) is that the motors dont really seem to come alive until about 5 laps into the race when they start to warm up.
