MB Slot Track!

December 2008 - January 2009

We are glad to inform that between the end of the year and the beginning of 2009 we will present a new Track System entirely designed and realised by MB SLOT.

Our experience and knowledge has led us to conceive and develop our project by taking into consideration and combine the positive aspects of the various tracks systems available in the market and try to eliminate, on the other hand, the drawbacks that each single system may have performed.
We summarise hereunder the basic constructional characteristics on how the system has been realised:

Track width: 200 mm
Straight sections length: 3 sizes

- 400 mm

- 200 mm

- 100 mm

Curve sections: 5 types

- Radius 270mm Section angle 45°

- Radius 470mm Section angle 45° and 22.5°

- Radius 670mm Section angle 22.5°

- Radius 870mm Section angle 22.5°

- Radius 1070mm Section angle 22.5°

Assemblng: Click-in self-locking coupling system. Fast, safe, stable.

Sections characteristics:

- Realized in plastic compound with high dimentional stability properties

- Robust structure, deformation or warp free

- Surface ensuring an optimal grip

Versatility:

- Easy adaptability to DS Electronic Counting systems

Warner's Promotion for Speed Racer movie

Some photos arrived just now from Racer. These cars were part of a promotion done by Warner Film Company in Italy for the Speed Racer movie. The cars they used were by Racer.

Wow, what a cool bunch of cars!

Speed Racer - The movie! An honest review.

How do you measure the success of a movie that is based on a cartoon series? In my opinion, you would preserve the essence of the cartoon, and add in the visual and aural stuff that current movie making technology allows. What you should end up with, by definition, is a movie version of the original cartoon.

Speed Racer therefore is a great movie. The visual onslaught is brilliant (literally!). The dialogue is cheesy. The racing is outrageously impossible. The fight scenes have been scrubbed of blood, and sprinkled with a few comical kicks to the teabags.

My kids loved it. The racing enthralled them; the fights made them laugh and cheer. They were not alone; the whole sub-adult audience echoed them. And for the grown ups who watched the TV series, we looked at each other meaningfully when we recognized the bits from the cartoon from which this movie had evolved.

A radio critic last week talked about realism. He stated that much of the racing stunts in Speed Racer would be physically impossible, and that the cars bear no resemblance to real race cars. He said it was just like in the movie 300; Spartans didn’t go into battle wearing only underpants. Speed Racer is a cartoon, not a lecture in physics! 300 was a portrayal of the legendary or even mythological viewpoint of the events at Thermopylae. We know Xerxes wasn’t nine feet tall! We know Spartans fought in phalanxes not ninja style! WE KNOW SPEED RACER ISN”T A RACING DOCUMENTARY!

If I am going to go and see an important historical drama, I would be upset with inaccuracy. Most of the time I go to movies to escape the real world. I go to fill my eyes, ears and mind with someone else’s temporary universe. I sit there like a twig in a river; I let go and let myself drift. I open my mind, and let the story teller tell the story. Go see Speed Racer, immerse yourself and let the movie entertain you for a couple of hours.

Paul Ricard Test - Day 1

Wednesday 14 May 2008
Location: Paul Ricard High Technology Test Track
Track length: 3.593kms

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU
Panasonic Toyota Racing started a three-day test programme in the south of France in preparation for the forthcoming Grands Prix in Monte Carlo and Montreal. Monaco and Canada place very different demands on car set-up, with the streets of the Principality requiring good traction allied to a high-downforce aerodynamic package. The variable circuit configurations at Paul Ricard mean that teams can conduct meaningful testing for both venues. Today the emphasis was on Monaco with Timo Glock at the wheel trying out different set-ups and aerodynamic configurations, as well as getting to grips with the Monaco-specification Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes kicked off a three day test at the Paul Ricard High Technology Test Track this morning. Lewis is at the wheel of the sole MP4-23 today and his plan focused on the team’s preparations for the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix. Work included set-up development, Bridgestone Potenza tyre testing and evaluation of the Monaco-specific aero package.

Timo Glock
"The morning session was reasonable and then in the afternoon the track conditions improved quite a lot. It was a normal test day making Monaco preparations with the only problem being some big changes we made over the lunch break which took a bit longer than expected and cost us some track time. It was the first time I have run the car in such high-downforce configuration. I was quite happy with it but we still need to work a little to improve the traction. Overall though, the car felt pretty good."

BWA New Product News

I had the pleasure of visiting Al Penrose at his BWA batcave last week. I was there picking up some wheels and inserts for a few CPR 2009 builds I have on the go. While I was there, Al filled me in on some new products he was developing.

One of the projects on his workbench is a small CNC machined adjustable chassis. The prototype I saw was a 2 piece design with an adjustable wheelbase. There is a cutout near the rear axle for inline configuration motors. So how small is the prototype? Small enough to fit under Al's TR4 (#3 in the photo) club racing car. Al is also developing a 13" scale wheel which is good news for guys who like to build and race models of these small British roadsters. Aside from all my wheeels and inserts, Al was kind enough to send me home with his Fly Lola T70 test mule. This car is powered by a factory sample of his new S-can motor. Look for a track test soon here on Slot Car News.
