Racer (RCR 63B) 512S #20 Sebring 12hrs. 1979 - J. Ickx / P. Schetty

My local slot shop Mini Grid recently received a shipment of Racer cars. Included in their shipment was Racer's Ferrari 512S. This release has allowed me to add another car from the legendary 1970 Sebring 12 hour race to my collection. It's Racer's Ickx / Schetty Ferrari 512S. Truly, a work of art in slot car form:

Judging from historical photos taken back in the day, Racer has nailed it aside from the lack of prancing horse emblem on their model's nose.

My guess is that this detail was omitted due to licensing issues. An easy enough fix with the appropriate decal...another mod added to my slot car to-do list, so I'll get around to is some day.Racer has done a nice job on the interior and Mr. Ickx' helmet:

Some nice detail on the rear of this model:

Here are shots that compare the Racer 512S (left) to its Fly counterpart (right):

Underneath lurks a Slot.it drivetrain - what we've come to expect in a Racer. This guarantees the car will run as good as it looks. My example exhibited a bit of tire rub, but with the adjustable nature of the Slot.it drivetrain this is easily fixable.

I now have three cars in my Sebring 1970 collection: Andretti's custom liveried Fly 512S, the Revson / McQueen Fly Porsche 908 Flunder, and the Ickx / Schetty Racer 512S:

All I need now is some track time. I'm looking forward to getting this beauty on the track to see how it stacks up against its race mates.

Sideways Capri information

News from Sideways about their new Capri:
Even if it was just a first injection prototype we noticed very good performance and shake down was mainly for testing the brand new motor mount made on our design. I still may not disclose motor mount drawings but it will shows some interesting feature. In any case chassis will accept in addition to this one, motor mounts Slot.It and Scaleauto as well.

Capri Zakspeed will be relaesed in angle winder configuration and with Slot.It Flat 6 motor.

We hopefully expect to be out on the market with the first version, Wurth DRM 1981 -
K.Ludwig, by the end of march or mid april.

Slot It Lola's coming along nicely

Recently during a racing event at Mid-America Raceway near Chicago, Maurizio of Slot It had a prototype of the upcoming Lola that he's working on. The car looks good and is brutally fast on the track. With some new developments in store in the car the Lola might just prove to be not only the fastest Slot It ever, but it might just take the top spot in the LMP slot car world.

Slot It poster!

From Slot It:
Group C is, without doubt, a category which has become synonymous to Slot.it.
Slot.it has come a long way since 2003, when the first Gr.C car, the Porsche 956 Kenwood, was launched.
We've lost count, since then, of how many other models have been made. It was 9 years of success, racing, collecting, which turned the Italian company into a reference name in the world of slot cars.
A limited edition lithography will soon be printed to celebrate these first nine years.
It's printed on special drawing paper, in 70x100cm size, and reproduces in historical order all the Gr.C cars which were made. The images, real pictures of the cars, are in 1:1 scale, hence, optical distortions permitting, are a faithful scale reproduction of the Slot.it model.
The caption for each model shows the selling date, production code, and other information like the name of the car, the race venue and date, and the driver's names.

Slot It GT40-LeMans 1966-Andretti-Bianchi

The Ford GT 40 is one of the most famous cars in Le Mans history, having won the 24 Hours four times, from 1966 to 1969.

The MKII version came in 1966, and thanks to the experience gained in 1964 and 1965, it dominated the Le Mans race with a 1-2-3 result.

The turning point in Ford's fortunes was the '66 Daytona 24 Hours, when four of the five Mark IIs finished first, second, third and fifth.

Visually, the MKII was little different from the standard GT40s. The car was very stable at high speeds after the lifting habit of the early models was solved. The MKII used the 7.0 liter (427ci) engine derived from the Ford Galaxie, with aluminum head; the power was 485 hp at 6300 rpm, and the car was able to reach a maximum speed of 330 km/h. The chassis was a steel semimonocoque, with a glass fiber body. The disc brakes were ventilated on the four wheels.

Recent race in Philly

A video from a recent race with some friends in the Philadelphia area at "RacerDoug's" house. We raced Slot It Group C and a modern GT race, which turned out to be a race entirely of the NSR Corvettes and Porsches.

New Slot It McLaren GTR

CA10e McLaren F1 GTR n.40, Le Mans 1998.

Drivers: B.Auberlen, S.O'Rourke, T.Sugden

The McLaren F1 GTR production, directed by the former Formula 1 engineer Gordon Murray, began in 1992 and ended in 1998.

At that time, it was the fastest car ever built.

In 1995, the F1 GTR gave its first performance at Le Mans and won, bringing to the finish line five cars that ended 1^st, 3^rd, 4^th, 5^th and 13^th.

The car featured a monocoque carbon-fibre chassis and a BMW 5990 cc V12 engine.

In 1997, the F1 GTR was developed into the “Long Tail” version.

At Le Mans 1998, the McLaren n.40 finished in 4^th place, completing a very regular race, with only 40 minutes spent at the pits in the entire 24-hours time.

Gulf Slot It Ford GT40 MKI

CW09 Ford Gt 40 MKI: Le Mans Winner 1969
Drivers: Jacky Ickx, Jackie Oliver

The Ford GT40 was one of the most successful car who won four times the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1966 being the Mk II, 1967 the Mk IV, and 1968-1969 the oldest chassis design, the Mk I.

This is the first car in Le Mans history to win the race more than once with the same chassis; it was built to compete against Ferrari (who had won at Le Mans six times in a row from 1960 to 1965).

The Mk I chassis n. 1075 was a steel and aluminum semi-monocoque; body was reinforced with carbon fiber. It had brakes ventilated discs. The engine, originally a 4.7 liter, had been enlarged to 4.9-liter with the special alloy Gurney-Weslake cylinder head; the gearbox was a ZF 5 gears.

The MKI was later upgraded to Mk II specifications with a 7.0 liter (427ci) engine.
The GT 40 will become the most glorious of all Ford Racing; in '69 the car caught the victory at Sebring.

5 teams, 20 minutes a heat... and half in the dark, yeah we had a great time last weekend at the slot club I belong to.
